Shangri-La Bengaluru marks a decade of compassion with its annual initiative, Cake for a Cause, in partnership with Iksha Foundation. This Independence Day, the hotel’s pastry team will bake over 100 kilograms of handcrafted cakes to raise funds for children battling retinoblastoma.

August 2025: On this Independence Day, Shangri-La Bengaluru celebrates a very significant milestone: ten years of Cake for a Cause, a sincere project in collaboration with Iksha Foundation, a non-profit organization based in Bengaluru that supports children with retinoblastoma, a rare and aggressive type of eye cancer that primarily affects infants and children under five.

Retinoblastoma frequently starts silently with squinting, visual disturbances, or a white reflex in the eye, which many parents confuse with a common infection. However, it can cause blindness or spread outside the eye to become life-threatening if not diagnosed and treated promptly. Chemotherapy, laser therapy, cryotherapy, and in certain situations, enucleation, the surgical removal of the afflicted eye to preserve the child’s life, are all part of the rigorous treatment regimen.

Iksha Foundation gracefully fills the gaps, supporting families through diagnosis, access to quality treatment, post-surgical care, prosthetics, counselling, and sometimes, simply holding their hand through the scariest moments of their lives.

From 13–15 August, Shangri-La Bengaluru’s pastry team will bake and sell over 100 kilograms of cakes in three flavours Chocolate, Butterscotch, and Vegan, with the goal of raising ₹2,00,000. Every cake sold becomes a contribution to a child’s ongoing or upcoming treatment, helping families who often come from remote or underserved parts of the country.

On 15 August, the hotel will host a special gathering of survivors, families, doctors, and well-wishers for a flag hoisting and symbolic cake-cutting ceremony, transforming Independence Day into a tribute to the small but mighty victories of children who have faced unimaginable odds.

This is more than just a CSR initiative. Over the last decade, Cake for a Cause has grown into an annual tradition of hope. Survivors return each year to share their journeys. Guests leave with more than just a cake, they go with purpose. From pastry chefs who hand-temper each batch with care, to staff members who personally deliver cakes to donors across the city, the campaign is built on genuine emotion and quiet effort.

This year, Shangri-La Bengaluru’s pastry team will bake 100 kilograms of handcrafted cakes for the campaign, available in three flavours: Chocolate, Butterscotch, and Vegan Chocolate. Guests can choose between 1 kg cakes for a donation of ₹2,400 or ½ kg cakes for ₹1,200, with all proceeds supporting children undergoing treatment through Iksha Foundation. Cakes will be ready for pick-up or sale from 9:00 AM on 13 August, and the donation portal will open a week in advance for pre-orders.

Last year, the campaign reached homes across Bengaluru and beyond, with widespread support from the community, media, and social media voices. Supporters shared stories of healing, solidarity, and the power of small gestures, proving that even something as simple as buying a cake can change the course of a life.
