McCain Foods agrees to acquire Falcon Agrifriz’s frozen potato processing business in Gujarat, expanding manufacturing capacity and farmer partnerships in India.

October 2026: McCain Foods has entered into an agreement to acquire the frozen potato processing business of Falcon Agrifriz Foods in Gujarat, India, strengthening its manufacturing network and expanding its capacity to serve domestic and export markets. The acquisition will add a modern, fully automated processing facility to McCain’s existing operations in Mehsana, Gujarat.

The transaction comes as demand for frozen potato products continues to create growth opportunities in India and international markets. The additional facility is expected to give McCain greater flexibility across its manufacturing network and support its long-term expansion plans.

Falcon Agrifriz operates a purpose-built facility producing a range of frozen potato products. The business employs more than 450 people and works with over 1,000 farmers across Gujarat. Following completion of the transaction, McCain plans to integrate Falcon’s employees and farming partners into its wider Indian operations.

Financial details of the acquisition have not been disclosed. Completion remains subject to customary closing conditions.

Strengthening Manufacturing and Agricultural Partnerships

Pierre Danet, Regional President for Asia Pacific and South Africa at McCain Foods, said India remains a priority growth market for the company. He added that the acquisition reflects McCain’s confidence in the market and builds on nearly three decades of investment in local operations, employees and agricultural partnerships.

The expanded manufacturing network is expected to help McCain serve customers more efficiently while strengthening its relationships with farmers and local communities.

McCain entered India in 1998 and has since expanded its workforce to more than 940 direct employees. The company partners with over 2,500 farmers across the country, supporting the agricultural supply chain required for large-scale potato processing.

Falcon Agrifriz’s network of more than 1,000 farmers in Gujarat will add to these existing relationships. Integrating the two networks could strengthen raw material sourcing and provide a wider base for the procurement of potatoes suitable for industrial processing.

Consistent potato quality is essential for frozen products such as French fries and other processed potato formats. Factors including variety, dry matter, reducing sugar levels, storage conditions and processing performance influence product quality, yield and production efficiency. A reliable grower network can help processors maintain these specifications and manage seasonal variations in supply.

Builds on Recent Investment in Gujarat

The acquisition follows McCain’s recent expansion of its existing Gujarat operations, completed with an investment of CAD 135 million, equivalent to approximately US$94.7 million. The expansion created 110 full-time positions and 150 contract roles.

Together, the investments underline McCain’s continued focus on expanding its Indian manufacturing base. Additional capacity can help the company respond to changing demand, improve production flexibility and support distribution to domestic customers and export markets.

Parthajeet Patnaik, Vice Chairman of Falcon Agrifriz, said the company was proud to have developed its modern, fully automated processing facility in less than two years. He highlighted the contribution of its employees and growers to building the business.

Manish Tibrewal, Director and CEO of Falcon Agrifriz, said McCain’s experience in frozen potato products and its confidence in the Indian market would provide a strong foundation for the business’s next phase of growth.

Supporting India’s Frozen Food Industry

The proposed acquisition reflects continued investment in India’s frozen food and potato processing sector. As foodservice operators, retailers and consumers seek convenient food formats, manufacturers need reliable processing capacity, cold storage and distribution systems to maintain product quality across the supply chain.

Frozen potato products require careful control of raw material quality, processing conditions, freezing and storage. Expanding manufacturing capacity can support greater availability, but long-term growth also depends on efficient logistics, dependable cold chain infrastructure and sustained partnerships with growers.

Aditya Krishna, Managing Director of McCain Foods India, said the company’s growth had been built through its relationships with employees, farmers, customers and communities. He added that McCain looked forward to welcoming Falcon’s employees and growers into its network and continuing to support local employment and regional industrial development. Once completed, the transaction will further strengthen McCain’s presence in Gujarat and add to its existing investments in India’s food processing industry. The integration of Falcon Agrifriz’s facility and agricultural partnerships is expected to support McCain’s plans for long-term growth in the Indian market.
