Chemco Group has inaugurated a food-grade rPET recycling facility in Sanand, Gujarat. Rs. 125-crore Sanand facility enables large-scale bottle-to-bottle recycling, strengthening India’s circular plastics economy.
February 2026: Chemco Group, one of India’s leading manufacturers of plastic packaging, has commissioned a state-of-the-art food-grade rPET recycling facility in Sanand, Gujarat, marking a significant milestone in the country’s transition toward a circular plastics economy. With a capital investment of approximately Rs. 125 crore, Chemco now joins a small group of Indian companies capable of delivering full end-to-end, bottle-to-bottle PET recycling at an industrial scale.
The Sanand facility has the capacity to recycle more than one billion post-consumer PET bottles annually, converting them into high-quality, food-grade recycled PET (rPET) suitable for direct food and beverage packaging. The commissioning of the plant substantially strengthens India’s domestic ability to replace virgin plastic with certified recycled material while meeting stringent quality, safety, and regulatory standards.
Strategically located in one of Gujarat’s key industrial hubs, the facility has been developed to align with global regulatory benchmarks. The rPET produced is approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), and is fully compliant with the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) requirements for food-contact applications. Operations also adhere to all applicable Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) norms governing plastic recycling and recycled PET, underscoring Chemco’s focus on regulatory compliance and product integrity.
“This facility represents a strategic shift in how Chemco approaches sustainability,” said Mr. Vaibhav Saraogi, Managing Director, Chemco Group. “Rather than treating recycling as an external dependency, we have built a fully integrated bottle-to-bottle ecosystem that provides our customers with confidence in supply security, traceability, and compliance. This is not merely an investment in infrastructure; it is an investment in the future of responsible packaging.”
The project comes at a time when global brands and regulators are intensifying their emphasis on recycled content, carbon reduction, and circularity. By establishing in-house recycling capabilities, Chemco enables brand owners to meet recycled-content mandates, extended producer responsibility (EPR) obligations, and sustainability targets without compromising on performance or food safety.

Designed as a closed-loop operation, the Sanand plant ensures end-to-end control across the recycling value chain. This integrated model improves traceability, reduces reliance on external suppliers, and lowers the environmental footprint associated with long-distance logistics. The scale of the facility also allows Chemco to supply consistent quality and volumes demanded by large beverage, FMCG, and food brands.
Beyond its environmental impact, the facility delivers tangible industrial and regional benefits. It creates skilled employment, reinforces Gujarat’s position as a manufacturing and sustainability hub, and supports India’s broader objectives of waste reduction, resource efficiency, and circular manufacturing. Chemco Group brings over three decades of experience in PET packaging to this initiative, supplying rigid and flexible packaging solutions to leading domestic and international brands. The addition of large-scale rPET recycling further consolidates Chemco’s position as a long-term partner for companies seeking credible, compliant, and scalable sustainable packaging solutions.
As demand for food-grade recycled materials continues to rise across global markets, Chemco plans to leverage this platform to support higher recycled-content applications and future capacity expansions. The company’s approach remains firmly focused on combining industrial scale with regulatory discipline and environmental responsibility.
With the commissioning of its Sanand rPET facility, Chemco Group takes a decisive step forward in closing the loop on PET packaging, transforming waste into a valuable resource and reinforcing its role as a leader in India’s circular plastics ecosystem.
