Legendary Sri Lankan cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan is venturing into new territory by investing in India’s food and beverage industry. The world record holder for most wickets in Test and ODI cricket is planning to open a beverage and confectionary manufacturing facility in Badanakuppe, Chamarajanagara district, Karnataka.

Muralitharan’s new business venture, “Muttiah Beverages and Confectioneries,” was announced recently following a meeting with Karnataka’s Large and Medium Industries Minister, MB Patil. The project is expected to significantly boost the local economy through job creation and infrastructure development.
The announcement came after Patil had held discussions with Muralitharan, who met with him to discuss the project.

In a statement by the Minister’s office, Patil said the former Sri Lanka cricketer Muralitharan plans to manufacture beverages and confectioneries under the brand “Muttiah Beverages and Confectioneries.”
The cricketer, who holds the world record for the most wickets in Test cricket, is diversifying his portfolio into the food and beverage industry with his new venture, “Muttiah Beverages and Confectioneries.”
Initially, the project was planned to invest Rs 230 crore, but due to increased scope and scale, the total investment has been revised to Rs 1,000 crore, with plans to expand to Rs 1,400 crore over the coming years.

Notably, the 52-year-old legend is still active in the sport. He is currently the bowling coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the coveted Indian Premier League (IPL), and under his guidance, the franchise reached the finals of the cash-rich league.
