NPCB, in partnership with Nagaland Coffee, has launched ‘Tumbler Takeover’ campaign aimed at reducing waste through the use of reusable tumblers. The event encourages to replace disposable takeaway cup.

November 2024: The Nagaland Pollution Control Board (NPCB), in collaboration with Nagaland Coffee, officially launched the awareness campaign on ‘reduce waste’ emphasising on Tumbler Takeover at Nagaland Coffee, Dimapur.

The initiative aims to promote the use of reusable tumblers in place of disposable takeaway cups to address environmental concerns caused by single-use waste. The event was organised under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) on Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment).

The programme was moderated by Rongsenben Longkumer, Junior Scientific Assistant at NPCB. She opened the event by highlighting the campaign’s significance in fostering a culture of sustainability, particularly in reducing the environmental footprint of the food and beverage industry. She further stated that such initiatives align with global goals like the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 12 on Responsible Consumption and Production.

Yanathung Kithan, Scientist ’13’ at NPCB, delivered a speech emphasising the pressing need to adopt eco-friendly habits at an individual and collective level. He commended the campaign for aligning with the principles of Mission LiFE and encouraging responsible consumption practices among the public. Further, he also stated that the Board is hopeful that other cafes in the state can also adopt similar initiatives to contribute to promoting sustainable businesses and moving towards for a healthier environment.

Vivito Yeptho, Proprietor of Nagaland Coffee, expressed his enthusiasm in partnering with NPCB for this meaningful initiative. He stated that this initiative is the first of its kind in Nagaland and that it should inspire cafes in Nagaland and even in other Northeastern states to adopt similar kind of models.

Tumbler Takeover initiative

Tumbler Takeover initiative aims to promote the concept of replacing single-use cups with reusable tumblers in local cafes in order to reduce waste and promote sustainable consumption. As a part of the campaign, Nagaland Pollution Control Board has handed over reusable tumblers to Nagaland Coffee whereby the café will offer the tumblers to their regular customers who pledge to reuse the tumblers every time they come back to the café for a takeaway order.

Further, as a part of the media awareness campaign, the participants are expected to post on their social media accounts and tag the accounts of Nagaland Pollution Control Board and Nagaland Coffee and use the hashtags #TumblerTakeoverNagaland #ReduceWaste #NCAP #MissionLiFE.
