Ball Corporation plans to establish a two-line beverage can manufacturing facility in Uttar Pradesh, expanding its Indian production network. The greenfield plant is expected to begin operations in 2029.

September 2026: Ball Corporation has announced plans to expand its beverage can manufacturing network in India with a new greenfield facility in Uttar Pradesh. The proposed plant will have two production lines and is expected to become operational in 2029, adding to the company’s existing manufacturing presence in the country.

Announced on September 11, 2026, the investment reflects Ball’s plans to expand capacity in response to growing demand for aluminium beverage packaging in India. The company currently operates two facilities in the country, located in Taloja, Maharashtra, and Sri City, Andhra Pradesh.

The new facility is expected to strengthen Ball’s ability to serve beverage manufacturers across India. The investment is supported by customer contracts and is intended to generate strong economic value, while remaining consistent with the company’s long-term capital expenditure approach.

Expanding India’s Aluminium Beverage Can Capacity

Ball has been expanding its presence in India since entering the market in 2016. Its existing facilities serve global beverage companies and leading domestic brands with a range of beverage can formats.

The planned Uttar Pradesh facility represents the next phase of this expansion. By adding production capacity in northern India, Ball aims to build a manufacturing network that brings its products closer to customers across a wider geographical area.

Mandy Glew, Senior Vice President and President for Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia at Ball Corporation, said India remains one of the company’s key strategic growth markets. She added that the investment reflects Ball’s confidence in India’s long-term economic potential and the continued growth of aluminium packaging.

The company also aims to establish a plant network that supports customers across the majority of Indian states, helping meet demand through a broader domestic manufacturing footprint.

Focus on Sustainable Packaging

Aluminium beverage cans are widely used for soft drinks, energy drinks, beer and other beverages. Their light weight, ability to protect products from external exposure and suitability for recycling make them an important packaging format for beverage manufacturers.

However, the environmental performance of aluminium packaging depends on factors such as recycled content, manufacturing energy, collection rates and the availability of effective recycling systems. Higher recovery rates and greater use of recycled aluminium can help reduce the demand for primary metal and lower the packaging’s overall environmental footprint.

Ball’s planned investment comes as beverage producers and packaging suppliers continue to expand capacity and develop supply chains to serve India’s evolving consumer market. The new plant is expected to contribute to this growth once operations begin in 2029.
